Congress delayed the effective date when passports are mandatory for sea and land entry into the US…
did not change the date for air travel.
So effective January 8, 2007 it is MANDATORY for all Americans travelling to the DR to have a passport in order to re-enter the USA.
This also applies for Canadians transiting through the US but not overflying without landing.
It now becomes extremely urgent for future travellers to get their passports as there are expected to be significant delays as people rush to meet the January deadline which affects returnees from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean by air as well as Nationals from all of those locations flying into the US.
