Beware Fiesta Premier Resort and Spa

#1

My family and I booked with Siganature Vacations in August 2006 to fly out of Toronto on Dec. 28 to Liberia. We were booked with the Fiesta Premier Resort and Spa. Nine days before we were scheduled to leave our Travel Agent calls and tells us the resort is camcelling all rooms that were booked. They also cancelled Air Canada too. They either overbooked or sold off the rooms at a higher price. We were devastated.we had researched Costa Rica and had booked two day trips with a husband and wife tour group. I emailed the hotel but they never responded. Wanted people to beware of this hotel and book another. They wanted to send us to their sister hotel the Fiesta Casino but we had heard poor things abour it and our contact in Costa Rica said to stay away from that area. Book another hotel!!! We want to try to go another year.

I seem to remember reports of this happening last year about the same time.

Here is the thread from last year… we were considering the FP for a trip last March but changed plans based on this… ended up at the Villas Sol

Thanks so muching for responding with your email. It appears that the FP continues to do this to people. They don’t even have the decency to return emails. If I can sway one family from booking this hotel I will be happy. I even contacted the Costa Rica Tourist Board to lodge a complaint.

Unfortuntaely this happens every year not only at Fiesta but with many of the hotels in the area. I had at least 5 families and a wedding group either redirected or ended up cancelling. I have heard various stories pointing the finger more at Signature Tours than directly at the Fiesta. Regardless it is a big dissapointment when the trip was booked months in advance.

Good news…Hilton takes over the Fiesta chain shortly. Expansions and remodeling.

I thought you would be interested in knowing that today Hilton announced today that they would be taking over the operation of a couple of Hotels that were acquired a few months back by Caribbean Property Group, a Real Estate Opportunity Fund with partners such as Goldman Sachs-Whitehall, Fremont Realty Capital Corporation y Perry Capital Partners. One of those hotels is the Fiesta Premier, a 202 room, all inclusive hotel located in the middle of Culebra Bay, near the Four Seasons. This Hotel will be upgraded and remodeled and will start operations as a Hilton in late 2007. The second hotel is an all inclusive 410 room hotel located in Puntarenas, used mainly by Costa Ricans, and will be flagged as a Doubletree.

Yikes. Not exactly what I wanted to read two weeks before we are supposed to be leaving for the Fiesta Premier. I think I’d rather find out before we leave so that we could cancel as opposed to being told once you get there that you have no choice but Puntarenas. I’m going to be stressed about this until we check in. :frowning:

You will probably be fine…since Christmas and New Years is probably a more busier time… I chose not to go to their sister hotel the Fiesta Casino due to the area. It seems the Fiesta Premier just overbooks and then tries to dump people into their inferior sister hotel.
It was in the newspaper that a couple from my city, Mississauga, Ontario was walking on the beach in that area at 8:30am Dec 27/06 and a man demanded mone, they didn’t have any so he took out a knife and grabbed the woman’s gold necklace. The wife was stabbed in the face and husband in the hand and leg, He had to be hospilalized for two nights. Yikes!!! Great holiday. Several safes were broken into also at that hotel. Sunny

I definately blame the Fiesta Premier and not Air Canada Vacation or Signature Vacations. They are given a block of rooms from teh hotel.they sell them and when they send the maifest down with the list of names…that is when the trouble begins,So sorry they say no room…Take Puntaarenas or nothing.!!! Great Trade.

From what I have found online I believe the robbery was at the resort in Puntarenas not at the FP

Thanks so much for letting me know about the Hilton taking over maybe they will try to solve the problems the FP have been having in the past while. Yes, I did know the attempted robbery was not in the FP area…it was in the area of their sister hotel…where they attempt to bump people. Do you think there will be new managment when Hilton takes over???

Sorry to hear about your cancellation. Look at my thread Dec 2005 “Fiesta Premier Nightmare” Until people stop going to this resort they will keep on doing it and getting away with it. They should be out of business! This not the only resort and Costa Rica is not the only place to travel. Wed went to Windjammer Landing in St Lucia a few weeks ago and had a great time . The terrain seems to be very similar to CR. The people were very friendly , food was gourmet quality. We got what we paid for and and more. It is a solid 4.5 to 5 star. No surprise about Fiesta Premier. It would nice if travel agents would do their part and warn travelers when booking that this is a common occurrence. They have a responsibility other than just collecting commission. The agent we had did not do his job.
Hope find our place in the sun.

And every weekend in the summer in downtown Toronto people are shot and stabbed. I wonder, should we stop going to Toronto also ?
