Botanical gardens

A general question, are there any large botanical gardens to walk round in the DR and are they accessible from Punta Cana?
My wife loved visiting the gardens in Barbados and also enjoyed a tour in Cuba.

There are no botanical gardens in Punta Cana although many of the resort grounds and well stocked in flora.

The nearest is in Santo Domingo (just under 4 hours drive from Punta Cana) the stunning National Botanical Gardens.
At 2 million square meters it’s the largest in the Caribbean. You can take a guided tour by train. Their Japanese garden is rated highly.
Open 9am-5pm. Admission is 1.50$US guided train tours are 1.50$US.

You could always take a walk around a “vivero” (plant nursery) there is one in Los Corales in the heart of Bavaro
