Catalonia Questions

We were supposed to go to Puerto Plata over Christmas, but our TA phoned today and these flights with skyservice/signature out of Kitchener have been cancelled. We had to quickly choose another location and are booked for Catalonia Dec21-28.out of Toronto. This is our first time to DR and I had researched POP, so basically know nothing about the Punt Cana area and Catalonia. Here’s a few questions. Thanks in advance to any replies.

  1. How close is Catalonia to a shopping area or town?

  2. We are going with the family-3 teenagers-but are used to Mexico…Can we use public transportation(bus)? Do the taxis fit 5 people?

3.Can you recommend which building to stay in, we like to be close to the beach!

  1. Can we snorkel off the beach at the hotel?

  2. Any products, art or gemstones that Punta Cana area is known for?

6.Are there any special activities or customs over Christmas?

Thanks again…At least we are still able to get away over Christmas.

Catalonia is about 5 or 6 minutes to Cabeza de toro, not a lot of shopping there although there ares ome stores and shops. You are about 20 minutes from Plaza Bavaro outside of Cortecito, much more available there, cabs will hold 5 people, they are decent sized sedans and some vans.

Since you have never been to the DR I would highly recommend the Bavaro Runnera an all day excursion that give you a chance to see some of the countryside, plantations, mountain area, some small villages and a ranch.

Yes you can snorkel right off the beach at Catalonia, water is quite calm normally and there are lots of small fish to see.

Larimar and amber are the gemstones you will find in the DR, be very careful because there are a lot of fakes being sold. There is jewellry outlet right off the lobby of the Catalonia that has good quality products.

Have a great trip, we thoroughly enjoyed the Catalonia in October.
