Cayo Coco or Cayo Santa Maria for Scuba

Have not been to Cayo Coco but can tell you that the beach at Cayo Santa Maria (in front of the Melia) is looooooooong and… flat, no coral or reefs at all. Tourists have to take the excursion to do any snorkeling…

There is very good snorkelling at the west end of the CSM beach between Sol and Melia Buenavista, but since the OP asked about scuba, for that you go to the Marina and they take you to various reefs in the area. I don’t scuba, so I really don’t know how it compares with Cayo Coco.

good snorkelling at both, and although not a diver, I’ve been told good at both, and both have very very nice beaches, but the resorts on Cayo Santa Maria are newer, if that matters
