I found this standard Santeria plaque on a door in our little town of Cueto Holguin. The translation is “protect me from evil eyes and evil tongues”. I asked the lady of the house if it was for sale and she said no. But the next afternoon a quite drunk Cuban man showed up at our doorstep with it in his hand. I am quite easy to find as almost everyone in town knows where “the foreigner” lives. My Cuban significant other looked at him and called me saying he must be one of my friends. I could not understand him because he was so drunk but figured he was looking to sell it to me. So I gave him 20 CUP or 80 cents and he stumbled away. Since I already have one of these on my internet modem to keep those evil eyes and evil tongues out of my computer system, I will probably put this one on the door.
