"Canadian company purchases Grand Paradise Bavaro BeachThe Toronto-based Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts announced the purchase of the Grand Paradise Bavaro Beach Resort, Casino and Spa owned and operated by the Dominican hotel company, Ahmsa. The all-inclusive resort features 1,029 guest rooms and suites, six a la carte restaurants, two buffet restaurants and ten bars across the resort.
The Blue Diamond team will take over the management of the resort that will continue to operate as Grand Paradise Bavaro Beach Resort through to 30 April 2013. The Canadian company announced the resort will close in May 2013 for a six month renovations period. In November 2013, the hotel will re-open as the 5 star-rated Memories Punta Cana Beach Resort and Spa.
Blue Diamond recently also took over the ex-SuperClubs resort in Trelawny, Jamaica, and is investing US$40 million to reopen it as the “Memories White Sands Beach Resort & Spa” later this year.
“With the increase in demand for Punta Cana and the scarcity of available rooms, the destination was the obvious choice for our next expansion of the Hotel Division,” commented Stephen Hunter, President & CEO Sunwing Travel Group. “Already a popular resort on a perfect wide expanse of white beach, we have ambitious plans to differentiate the resort under our Memories brand next year”.
Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts, a division of Sunwing Travel Group, currently operates over 3,500 rooms in all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Latin America under its “Memories Beach Resorts” and “Royalton Luxury Resorts” brands.
Sunwing Travel Group, which includes Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations, is the leading integrated travel company in Canada. "

Do you know if any other Canadian operators own all or part of a resort in Punta Cana?

Just wandering.

All of it…they will manager until April 2013 then close it for a six mrelocationation project and reopen in November 2013 as Memories Punta Cana Resorts And Spa

Wud - have seen the Memories resorts this year in the Sunwing Brochure - now I know why. Do you think this will be a good change for this somewhat belittled resort? Might be one to look at for Jan 2014 - especially if it offers what the other Memories in Cuba are offering.
