Juragua Nuclear Power Plant

As the Juragua Nuclear Power project has been abandoned for about 20 years are there closeup photo opportunities of the reactor building or is the area still restricted access or a Zona Militar.

I will be there in 3weeks. Maybe.

This is the latest article (Apr 2014) I’ve found about looking in the reactor building. From Google maps the main admin building at the highway is still in use with vehicles parked in front, as are several warehouse type buildings. The velador security guy might be the best guide for the area. Like with all urban archaeology bring bright flashlights.

That report is a but more than my plan but I do hope to get some photos.

It’s driving me nuts because I can’t find it flygt, but I have a great shot of the ominous dome on the nuclear power plant taken from the fabulous patio deck of the fabulous Cienfuegos Yacht Club - one of my favourite places to enjoy a cocktail or ten in that neck of the woods.

Cheers,
Terry

Thanks Terry, looked around and saw the dome showing up in some bay shots.

Lol, I guess Ciudad Nuclear just south of Jagua is going to be looking for a new name.

I wonder about that unfinished apartment tower in Ciudad N.

That’s on a fairly long lens, but yes, that’s the view of the dome from across the bay. It’s a bit shocking the first time, actually.

Cheers,
Terry
