We are noth in our forties and we are leaving our kids for the first time and we are counting down the days. right now it is 28 long days before we leave.
Any advice you can give us would be great
Thanks Sue

Welcome to the forums Sue:

We will be in Punta Cana in 27 days, right next door at the Palladium Royal Suites Turquesa.

There is losts to do on the resort for you, lots of nice bars, decent evening entertainment each night for a couple of hours.
Mangu disco is on the resort near the entrance and is open to the public, so it it frequented by locals…be very aware of what are known as sankies, they love to try and hit upon unescorted ladies.

PLaza Bavaro is right outside the gates of your resort so there is lots of shopping for trinkets and souvenirs from very aggressive salespeople, learn to say NO if you are not interested, and barter on the price if you are interested in an item, determine what something is worth to you and pay no more than that…

Steve’s Corner Bar is directly across the road from the resort gates, we always have a forums get together when we are in Punta Cana, a number of posters will be there on January 28th between 1 and 2 pm for a couple of cold ones some chit chat and some people watching.

Hope you can make it there, it is nice to be able to meet forum posters in person, last trip there were a couple dozen there.

Enjoy your trip, you will love the beach at the Occidental.

Try to get a room in “club Miquel” it is more$ but worth it!There are vendors on the beach (app. 300 yd right)pay half of what they ask!You will see boats for “Capt. Cook’s res.” go there, great food!take the “Bavaro runners trip” You’ll love it.Any Ques. _putznji@hotmail.com

First time leaving the kids LOL I remember that time, got over that after the first trip and have never looked back. They will be fine. My advise…your on great stretch of beach. Enjoy long walks in the sun and surf. Have a few cool ones…or maybe more than that ! Remember to drink at least one water for every 2 jazzed up ones. I always try to eat when the buffets open up to get the best non picked over food while it hot as well. Load up on sunscreen. Definitely go to the lobby bar to met and chat with peoples from all over the world. This is usually the high light of my trips. Chat with the locals, listen to their stories and threat them they way you want to be treated. Most of all you two gals let your hair down…don’t worry be happy. Enjoy your trip as a mother I know you both deserve it. While your laying in the sun, having a drink, plan your trip for next year! My travel companions & I save all year, $25-30 per week. That amount will usually be almost enough for your trip. Hope you both have a great time.

Your vacation is what you make it. Don’t expect life to be like “back home”. Vive la difference !

Take a thermal mug and/or the coffee trays from timmy ho’s for carrying those drinks around much easier!! Thermal mug gots to keep that beutiful talcum powder sand outta your drinks along with keepin them cold!!!

hand sanitizer
U.S. money including lots of small bills for tipping
under water camera to go on a snorkeling tour with all those hundreds of colorful fish!!TIP: take bananas with u and crush them up under water INCREDIBLE!!!

In between finding your tour REP and heading to your bus…
Grab a couple ice cold beer at the outdoor bar to your right when exiting the airport. In Punta Cana, expect to pay about $3 US I always by six for the 20 minute bus ride…never know when you might get a flat tire Once you have found your bus and got your luggage loaded, make a quick trip for a beer

Take the wonderful advise of Wud and the other members who have been to the DR many many times and also to this great resort. Do not expect things to be the same as at home but keep an open mind and you will surely enjoy yourself. Going to out little corner of Paradise will make you want to come back time and time again.
