Panama named best place in the world to retire

Many times Panama was named as the best place to retire in the world. Some of the reasons are that they have modern infrastructure and great healthcare insurance. Some of other great things that Panama offers is that you do not pay taxes on money that you receive from your own country as pension and if you buy new property in Panama you do not pay property tax for 20 years. Have you ever thought about retiring in Panama?

I pretty much answered this in a previous thread but can sum it up by using an old saying “Panama City is the Miami of Central America” and the whole country with it’s gated communities is too Americanized for my liking.

However before making a decision on such an important life choice, a comparison of other options should be made, a good source of information is [a href=“http://internationalliving.com/2014/01/the-best-places-to-retire-2014”]International Living magazine[/a] and please remember the excellent advise given by many rent for a year before making a commitment to buy. That gives you a chance to see if the location suits you as there’s a difference between being a tourist and an expat.

That is true it is good to rent before buy as real-estate is not liquid and you can not sell over night if you want.

Yes International Living Mag is one of the most reputable Mags for people who want to retire and this is what they said about Panama:
“Nearly everything about Panama is convenient, particularly if you’re coming from North America. The currency is the dollar, English is widely understood, and the international community is large and welcoming. Even the littlest things are easy…your U.S. appliances will work here, no converters needed. And you can find anything you need, from gourmet ingredients to popular clothing brands.”
