Scuba diving - north coast or east coast?

Hi,
We are planning our second trip to the DR in early July. We are all qualified divers and can’t decide between staying at the Iberostar Costa Dorada or Iberostar Bavaro.
Just wondered whether the diving will be better on one coast over the other? Any comments very welcome about the diving, the hotels and the areas.
Thankyou,
from totally confused!!

I have not dove the North Coast but have in Bravero, and it is poor at best. I have heard that the north coast is much better. The DR has poor diving, if this is a dive Vacation go somewhere else. If you just want a vacation and want do some diving while there it will do. I have have dove the south many times, La Romana area is was OK…just OK

I have heard that Luperon (1 hour west of Puerto Plata) has some very good dive sites.

How about the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus on the much forgotten south coast? There are many dive spots through the Bayahibe/La Romana/Catalina/Saona/Catalinita areas, at both reefs and wrecks. I’m a snorkeler and not a diver, but can connect you with divers and dive shops if interested. That hotel uses Dressel Divers as their on-site dive shop who are always well reviewed. You have a beach almost like Punta Cana, with the local towns and real life almost like Puerto Plata…AND…you can watch the sun setting into the Caribbean nightly!

If you’re only interested in the north and east, that’s all I’ll say, but many people don’t even know that the south is an option. For anybody who’s interested in diving in the DR, there IS another option!
