Snorkeling on north side

#1

We’ll be traveling to PP area in November. What is the snorkeling like in that area - is snorkeling accessible by beach, or do you need to book trips for all? Any info you can give would be helpful!

Don’t know where you are planning on staying…but Sosua Bay has really good snorkeling. There are Catamaran excursions to the Bay from most of the North Coast area resorts. But if you stay in Sosua at one of the resorts, you can snorkel right off the beach. The swim to the reef is only a few hundred meters. Take some banana or bread to feed the fish and you will see lots of different fish species. The reef corel itself is very colorful. Bring your underwater camera.

thanks for the info! We’re staying at the Tropicana Caribe in Puerto Plata. Is there a public beach on Sosua Bay that we can get to to access the reef? Any info you can give is great! We’ve never been to the DR before!

Hi there. There is a great beach in Sosusa( FOr north coast standards). Just take a taxi there and head to the beach, look out about 200 metres and you’ll see the reef area. You can rent chairs there and there are lots of places to eat and drink. Plan on spendinf the day there, you’ll love it. The taxi will wait for you at a predetermined pick up point and it will cost alot less than the excursions.

If you walk down the beach just over half way, you can easily swim out to the inner reef.
